| Hello. My name is Jim Karvunis. I’ve been a resident of the Golden Isles on Jekyll Island for over 16-years. I'm a retired pharmacist, working part-time as a stand in for local pharmacists around town.
As a private citizen and one who sees you as a leader in your area of influence, I am asking for your help in communicating my personal invitation to our community for what, I believe, is an important opportunity.
RATIONAL:
After my wife died of cancer some 5-years ago, I developed an association with a CARE outreach here in Glynn County. This volunteer care-giving organization was affiliated with Hospice.who extends services that allow patients to live out their final season of life in the environment of their choosing - with the highest amount of quality living as possible.
I know this area of service is unique - as it requires special sensitivities. And, I have become increasingly aware that one of the greatest issues that can present itself to persons with terminal illness is "falling." Losing ones footing which can equal - mishap. More, I've noticed that individuals do far better with assistance in the "walking" by carrying or using some kind of support. Thus, my writing.
PURPOSE :
I would like to be part of launching a process where volunteer citizens can join together, under the guidance of a Master Carver & Whittler, Bll Johnson (CLICK HERE), to learn the art of . . .
"WHITTLING for WALKERS. . . .
Shillalahs, Canes & Walking Sticks to empower the Life Journey"
MISSION:
These Walking Sticks and Canes (instruments) will be presented to individuals facing challenges while making a way for these individuals to walk with distinctive pride and pleasure in sleeving an artistic conversation piece to use in the present and for generations to come. Each cane will be individually carved by the loving hands of concerned friends, volunteers and citizens. PROGRAM:
