Description: Social Dance for all Levels is three separate classes. Sign-up for the one that suits you best or sign-up for two or all three. This is a wonderful opportunity for physical exercise and fun through dance movements. Coursework will include syllabus descriptive handouts with weekly worksheets and instruction. Students will develop a repertoire of patterns in each style of dancing; learn leading and following techniques; recognize styles of music, appropriate steps and personal flair for each dance form. The discovery of social, recreational and lifelong fitness value for individual quality of life will meet you at every turn. Come on out and join in the art of fitness fun!
If sufficently subscribed, all three classes will conclude with an afternoon "Tea Dance" free to class participants.
The Jekyll community would be invited for a fee. Classes meet at Mistletoe Cottage.
Class I: Beginner Couples Social Dance
You can face the music and move with confidence as you master the basics of the American Foxtrot, European Waltz, Classic American Swing and the lovely Latin Rumba. Learn to dance to any music the band may play with ease and comfort.
Dates: Tuesdays, 3-5pm, Jan 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb 7, 14, 21, 28.
Class II: Intermediate Couples Social Dance
For the intermediate dancers who want to improve their social dance skills. We will typically concentrate on two dances for the class - one smooth and one rhythmn dance. Attention will be given to styling of the dance and the use of movements that emphasize timing syncopations, pivots and body lines.
Dates: Wednesdays, 3-5pm, Jan 11, 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.
Class III: Social Line Dance for Pairs and Singles
This class will instruct students in basic country and folk dance, style, rhythmns and traditional couple dances that have specific patterns. Couples and singles will circle round and line to rhythmns of the country western 2-step, waltz and variations. Students will learn current and favorite line and couple dances, such as: Stroll, Cotton-Eyed Joe (Old Fashioned), Four Corners, Circle Round and Texas Two-Step.
Dates: Thursdays, 3-5pm, Jan 12, 19, 26, Feb 2, 9, 16, 23, Mar 1st.
Cost: $50 Single or $100 Couple for each class.
